Longing to Learn, Learning to Belong: An Ethnographic Study on Identity and Heritage Among Immigrant Language Students in Western Uusimaa, Finland.

Over seven months, I conducted deep qualitative research into how language learning shapes identity and belonging among immigrant communities. Working across interviews, observation and cultural analysis, I examined the psychological, social and political dimensions of language acquisition — and what it means for how people locate themselves in the world.

The research was awarded a distinction.

It changed how I think about communication, culture and what it means to truly understand an audience. It also confirmed something I'd suspected for years: that the most interesting strategic questions are always, underneath everything, human ones.
